‘Plant label’ abbreviations:
In here are tems that you will find on my plant labels. Some of them I copied from nurseries for convenience.
N.: This simply stands for Nepenthes. Especially on complex crosses, abbreviating Nepenthes to N. makes the label more readable. This is also a commonly used abbreviation.
HoCa Clone: HoCa stands for Hortus Carnivorum; these are clones that I either grew myself from seed, or I bought as an individual that was individually grown from seed, so no cutting, basal shoot or Microprop/Tissue Culture. When I got these plants, they were genetically unique. I start my clone numbers from ‘0’. I’m a computer nerd, so this makes sense to me.
BExxxxxx: BE is the abbreviation for Borneo Exotics. The number after indicates the plant code.
(S): Seedgrown. These plants were grown from seeds by myself.
(basal): Basal shoot. These plants are cuttings of basal shoots.
(ICS): Individual Clone from Seed. This plant came directly form seed. Genetically unique individual.
(RSC): Random Selection from Clones. The nursery that released this clone either did not give all the plants they grew unique clone numbers, or just picked a random plant from available clones.
